Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems opens first production plant in growth market China
»
Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems (BMTS) is preparing for a further increase in demand for highly efficient turbocharged gasoline engines in China. On November 25, 2014, the company opened its first location in Shanghai/China. Around 100 employees will manufacture and develop turbochargers for the local market at this production plant.
The plant also serves as the headquarters of Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. in China and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems GmbH. The location has its own research and development center, giving the BMTS employees access to modern engine test benches, laboratory equipment, and hot gas test benches.
The production plant was constructed along the lines of the model plant in St. Michael/Austria, with high-precision equipment as well as synchronized production process steps. Around 100 new employees from BMTS China received training at the main locations in Austria and Germany, thereby placing the new plant in a position to deliver outstanding quality.
With its cutting-edge production line and local expert teams, BMTS will also deliver top quality in the People’s Republic of China. This is achieved, for example, by end-of-line tests in assembly, whereby turbochargers are checked for functionality, internal and external leak tightness, correct assembly, and balance. The installed production capacity amounts to more than one million turbochargers per year.
BMTS offers its Chinese customers a comprehensive service package: to guarantee optimal support, teams were established on site for the areas of quality assurance and sales, as well as simulation, design, application, and validation.
The headquarters of the local company were built on the MAHLE premises at the Shanghai location. In the first stage, turbochargers for gasoline engines will mainly be produced for the local Chinese market in a new building comprising 5,000 square meters. Orders have already been secured from several local and international vehicle manufacturers.
